Our school crossing patrol officers help children and families cross busy roads safely at the start and end of the school day. They are usually known as ‘lollipop people’.

We currently have patrols at 17 locations, working closely with schools to review where they are needed. School crossing patrols are not something we have to provide by law. If we are alerted to an area which would benefit from a patrol, we will investigate and may set one up. This depends on funding from the school and is run on a full cost recovery basis.
