Italian Gardens updates

We’ve been working hard in the Italian Gardens over the last two weeks.

The stump  removal is nearing completion and we are currently prepping the flowerbeds, in readiness for the new plants. The visuals will be kept on site throughout the ongoing works, showing stages of the work to the finished design.

We are pleased to announce that we will soon be starting to carry out the preparation works ready for the new plant, shrubs and trees to go in at the Italian Gardens.

We will be putting up some temporary fencing whilst we remove the existing stumps.  The fencing is for health and safety reasons to ensure that SWISCo staff, whilst using heavy  machinery to remove the stumps, do not place members of the public at risk by allowing access to the working area.  However, the fencing will not just be for practical purposes – it will also be showcasing the new designs on picture boards, alongside historical imagery of how the  Italian Gardens have changed over the years.

The fencing will be removed at the earliest opportunity, with the structural and feature planting being  put in place first, after which all the under planting and bedding will be completed,  with the finishing touches applied soon after.

Thank you for your patience while we wait on the delivery of all the plants but we are sure you will be delighted with the new design, making the wait all the more worthwhile.

We will continue to keep you updated of progress here on the website although, hopefully, if you are a frequent visitor to the area you will see the changes occurring regularly.

The high-level design for the Gardens has now been agreed. The design has also been shared with suppliers to provide costs and delivery times of the plants. Please be aware that the process of securing the correct plants and specific species may take some time to co-ordinate; future updates will be provided once we have a clearer picture of timescales.

Over the festive period, we have been working up the design for the new-look Italian Gardens, taking on board public comments and looking at ways we can incorporate these comments into our end design, creating a garden that will be a delight for years to come. Plants and shrubs are due to be ordered later this month, and we will keep you updated on further timelines and progress.
